June – Father’s Day – Mother’s Day was first celebrated in the ’60. and in 1914. it became an international holiday. This was the spark that was needed to create a new holiday called Father’s Day. Namely, history of this holiday begins in 1908., when a church in West Virginia held a liturgy devoted to 362 miners who died in an explosion while digging a mine. The next year, Sonora Smart Dodd raised a question about celebrating Father’s Day, given the fact that she herself was raised, along with her five brothers, by her father alone. She wrote a petition and for the first time, Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19th in 1919. As years past by, Father’s Day became celebrated in almost every continent and that is why in 1972. President Nixon made it a National Holiday in the USA. During the ’20s and ’30s, this Holiday gained its popularity and that is why today Father’s Day is being celebrated in June (usually on a 3rd week) whereas in Switzerland it is being celebrated on 5th of June.
